Podcast Studio

A semester one project asking a more provocative question than the Architecture Centre: what happens when a contemporary, almost weightless insertion is placed directly on top of a historic church roof.

The studio sits above the treetops, and the design leans fully into that condition. The driving idea is the body's relationship to air and horizon, what it feels like to be lifted suddenly above a familiar streetscape and given a wide, unbroken view. The building is conceived less as a container and more as a threshold between the enclosed, grounded world of the church below and the open air above it.

Rather than disguising the meeting of old and new, the project makes that meeting the subject. The historic fabric of the church and the light, elevated intervention above it are left in visible dialogue with each other, with the contrast doing the atmospheric work rather than any applied styling.

This project is where I test how far a design idea can be pushed on a genuinely constrained and unusual site, and it remains one of the clearest examples of adaptive reuse thinking in my portfolio.
